Essential Oils

Things We Learn From Our Clients: Essential Oils

We get as much from our sessions with our clients as they do from us. So we thought we would share some useful tips we have gathered along the way.

Essential oils can be used for therapeutic benefits. In fact, aromatherapy is a centuries old practice with proven health benefits.  Oils are extracted from plants and bottled for our use. The aroma of the essential oils is inhaled and then travels through our olfactory nerves and impacts the emotional center of our brain called the amygdala. Their use has been documented to help with common problems from stress and anxiety to headaches.

You may already use them in a variety of ways.  Some can be added to our food or drinks, used in cleaning products, diluted and rubbed on our skin or you may use a diffuser to add them to the air you breathe. But did you know that you could add them to your steamy shower for an amazing mindful moment?  A client of mine shared this practice with me and I could not keep it to myself.  How genius! The scent molecules are released into your shower creating a wonderful sensory experience. Pair it with a mindfulness exercise and you are in for a shower to remember.

So next time you hop in the shower, consider adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the stream of water.

Thanks for the tip!
